Ellen ends her show every day with the same phrase “be kind to one another.” However, we must not lose sight of the importance of being kind to ourselves.
Stop Beating Yourself Up
We are often our own worst critic and our negative self-talk can be damaging. The next time you find yourself in a cycle of negativity stop and do 3 things:
- Determine what you learned and how you can do better next time.
- Embrace that you are human and that we all make mistakes.
- Consider the compassionate response you would give to a loved one.
Celebrate Your Strengths
We all have strengths that are unique to us, but we often don’t consider what these are. You might be a great listener, a master organizer, a skilled home chef, a natural mediator, or a whiz with your home budget. It’s time to start celebrating what comes naturally. Spend more time celebrating than in negativity and your eyes will open to new opportunities.
Be Grateful
When we find ways to be grateful for things both small and large, one of the residual effects is that we are kinder to ourselves too. Gratitude literally changes the chemistry in your brain releasing more self-healing hormones throughout our body. The better we think and feel, the more fun we are to be around and the more open to connection.
It’s true that life is a journey, not a destination. While the challenging time you are in the midst of might not make sense now you can walk away from it…stronger, wiser and more resilient.
